Multi Start Menu by DigitalSpectrum Multi Start Menu by DigitalSpectrum
It seemed like a good time to make a start menu since people are trying to get theirs back on Windows 8.
A skin for those of us who hide the taskbar, but still want access to most of it's functions.

Edit Settings.inc to change Drive and App Paths, Use Settings Window for the themes.
Launcher on First Screen, Start Menu on Second (click big arrow)

Requires at least Rainmeter-2.5-r1761-beta [link]

Features:

- 30 Themes and 12 Icon Themes with Theme switcher!!

- Web Search

- Many links and commands

- Now uses new FileView plugin

- *Vista + Win7 Only* 3D Task Switcher Button

- *Win8 Only* Click on "Start" text to open list of Metro Apps.

Would work great in a Taskbar like these [link] [link]

Don't know if this is still active, but, I just downloaded it and it is awesome, but when I try the search/run bar it crashes rainmeter.

k, I'm already working on incorporating some of the stuff you've update into v2.0 of my Start Menu. If all goes well 2.0 will be released sometime next week.

Yeah, the indexing will start at 1 instead of 0 for Fileview. I have it all done I'm just waiting for the new plugin. Hopefully after this update I won't need to update it for a while.

Hey, virginityrocks here from the forum. I suggest adding OnRefreshAction=!CommandMeasure MeasureSearchInput "ExecuteBatch 1" to the [Rainmeter] section of MultiStart.ini to replicate the functionality of the Start Menu where when it opens, you can immediately start typing a search.

Quick question, do you mind if I use and upload your start menu (which full credit for the skin going to you and those people listed in your credits) in a program that allows Windows 8 users to partially bring back their start menu and start orb?

The link appears broken :/

Perhaps create a second deviantart page listing the beta version (with a link to the stable and vice versa?)

I like the new themes that change text color instead of doing it manually.

The scrolling feature feals, as you said, a bit clunky, particularly if your trying to use the scroll bar and not the mouse's scroll wheel.

Thanks! In the variables you can change the scroll step to lower like 1 or 2 and it feels smoother but is harder on resources.

Yea I can tell, also, I changed the ScrollStep to 3 and afterward when I was scrolling up and down to test it for about 15 seconds, Rainmeter 2.5 broke, it still was shown running but other than that it was like it had turned off.

This thread [link] on the rainmeter forums is a good read about the filelist plugin. (They don't seem to like it there) The guy came up with a different solution but I can't apply it to a start menu without giving up the icons.

Yep it does it to me too, a simple kill/restart of rainmeter fixes it but its definately not good. I'm trying to isolate the problem.

Just a note: If you have a Microsoft account for Windows 8 (or at least Windows 8 Pro 64-bit) instead of a local account, the user image will not display, not sure why...

Is it possible to somehow create a shortcut that opens the Start Menu (with like an X or something for closing since it wouldn't work to click it again to close...?)

Regardless, this is a great little gadget for those of us who would like to preserve our start menus.

My only complaint would be when your list of programs is more than a page or two long the one way arrow feels cumbersome. A back arrow and/or scroll feature would be much appreciated

Oh, and one more thing, is it possible to have the start menu display a list of "pinned" files and folders with a link at the bottom to the current programs list?

Thanks Alot!

If you mean the windows start menu there is a button to open it.

For closing it you can click the start orb button again to close it, it works for me anyway as I am using the !ToggleConfig bang. Yesterday I added autohiding to everywhere I could (except the FileList menu because then you couldn't go into folders). I could add a close X but I can't think of a place where it would go that wouldn't take away from the looks. So I guess for now its just clicking the orb again (or right-clicking and going to "Unload Skin"). I hope that's what you meant.

I plan to add a scroller or Mouse scrolling with the new Rainmeter 2.5 beta.

Yes I could totally add a list of pinned apps afaik, I believe they are just links in folder so yes it's very possible. Again I'm pressed for space so I would probably put it as a third screen with the big arrow at the top. Will probably do that soon, thanks for the Idea!!

That arrow at the top (right now) actually switches you to the other directory where your programs are. The full start menu is linked to from the "All Programs" button, I WOULD use that but it seems like FileList can't read it as it is a special folder.

I was referring to your Rainmeter Start Menu.

Yes, I know about that click-to-open/click-to-close setup, I was thinking out loud about how it would need to be setup for a taskbar shortcut (since I doubt that setup would work with a link) to functionally open the rainmeter Start Menu skin w/o being a hassle to close (hassle being right clicking and unloading skin :P)

I'm guessing that means those of us who stick with stable builds will have to wait till whenever 2.5 comes out? That's a bumber but I'll wait (provided I don't forget about this skin before then xP)

Np. If possible, it would be nice if it was setup so it didn't use your system links but your own links that are in a different folder. That way its much more customization friendly.

There is no mouse scrolling in Rainmeter 2.4.

Ok, I updated it so that the first screen is a customizable launcher, then the filelist menu on the 2nd screen.

On the taskbar you would just use a button meter (exact same as the included orb) instead of a regular image link.

I will work on scrolling very soon.

k, thanks! :D

Button meter... Care to elaborate?

Now if only 2.5 would finish up with the beta phase...

A button meter is what the start orb is. Check out the ini file if your interested or here is the docs page [link]

Oh [I]that[/I] button...

Should have made myself more clear. I was talking about a button/shortcut that can be attached to the windows taskbar that activates the skinned start menu.

So was I, you just put the code inside the taskbar skin, like one of the 2 I linked to in the description.

how did you get the search function to work?

:icondigitalspectrum:

You just add in the search query string before you receive the $UserInput$. In the variables.inc file there are more query strings so you can change it.
I will be adding a search selector by clicking on the search icon soon, so you dont have to change it manually.

No i meant was there a plugin that you used to search through files or something? Or does the widget call some piece of software to do it?

Oh! It's a web search (ie.Google). It can also run a shell command (and will when I update). But no not a file search. Sure you could use an external program to do it, but I have no plans to implement that, maybe in the future. I admit it's not how the windows menu works but its something...

You would have to go into the variables.inc file and change the variable "startmenupath" to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs or
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\

also some of the other stuff may not work as well.
